Yellowstone Trip!

The kids are back in school! They did go off track again and during that time we went swimming, Gabe had his golf awards banquet and we went on a fun trip to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole! I think it's the funnest trip we have ever been on. Yellowstone looked so much like Germany. There were tall woods everywhere and hills with patches of woods on them. It was foggy and a little cold. All the tourists spoke either Japanese or German. We were only 3 1/2 hours away from home but it felt like we were on the other side of the world.

Now summer is officially over and it's time to get ready for fall. So bittersweet.

Cambrey's first day of school.

Having barbecued hamburgers at Gabe's golf award banquet.
He got a participation trophy.

He really wanted to place so he could win a big trophy - therefore he wasn't to happy get a small one for participating.
This genius baby likes to read! I walked into my bedroom and found him doing this. I was amazed.

Last swim of the year! We had the pool to ourselves.

Getting free ice cream at Cold Stone.

Driving to Yellowstone.

See the giant cow out the window?
This is a statue of "Evil Knievel" on it's way to who knows where?

This was a giant mansion looking hotel that we thought was pretty neat.
Entering Bear World!

My "beary" cute family!

Even the fries are shaped like bears.
The gift shop has homemade fudge!
Mountain goats

Driving on our bear safari.

Here comes one now. Right down the road toward our car!
Here he is right next to my car window.

That's a white wolf.

That was a fun ride.

Driving onward to Yellowstone.

Pulling up to our camp ground.

It's a Teepee Ranch!

Inside out teepee

It was a little cold but not cold enough for coats - more like jackets. What was Daddy thinking?

The bathrooms were super clean and homey.

This is the menu for the restaurant at the ranch.

This beautiful little river ran through our campground.
A bird dropped its lunch.

Standing outside the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant.

Waiting for our dinner.

Creamy red pepper soup with smoked Gouda.
The dinner rolls were delicious and the salad had huckleberry vinaigrette on it. Everything in Yellowstone and Jackson is Huckleberry flavored.

My wild game sausage. Elk, bison and pheasant.
The bathrooms were too fancy to have a baby changing table. I had to change Tatem by the sink. He had the worst blow out ever.

Gabe took this picture in the men's bathroom.

I love the fish!

This horse just walked into our campground with a bunch of his friends. We fed him an apple.
Inside the check-in tent.

Having hot chocolate and apple cider around the fire.

We woke up to a foggy, misty morning. It looked so much like Germany.

Downtown West Yellowstone.

Paying to go into the park.
Then the fog cleared.

The water in Yellowstone is so clear you can to see to the bottom.

Loved this waterfall.

This looks like Germany.
There were hills and windy roads everywhere.

There is a bald eagle on that ridge.
Geysers everywhere.

Eating lunch at the Lake Lodge restaurant.
I had bison chili.

This is where we stayed the second night.

Our cute little cabin.
The view outside our cabin window.

It terrified me to have my kids so close to the edge of a cliff where an eight-year-old boy just died a week earlier.

This is the Roosevelt Lodge where we went for our wagon ride. Wild buffalo roaming around the cabins.

You could take horseback, stagecoach or covered wagon to the chuck wagon dinner.

Getting our instruction for the wagon ride from a real cowboy.

Riding to our cook out dinner.

Our destination for the cowboy dinner.

A singing cowboy.

Everyone got giant steaks even the kids. They let you go back for more too.

Riding back

These animals are the second fastest animals in the world.

Cambrey saw this soap at all the gift shops and wanted one. I said no. Then they happened to be in our cabin for free! She was so happy - she got her bear soap after all.

Ready to leave our cabin.

Finally bought some huckleberry licorice.

This was so pretty. Reminded me of a tropical beach.

Old Faithful
Eating their cookies

Walking up to the Grand Prismatic Geyser. Our favorite one of all.

There it is!

Checking in to Jackson Hole.
At the Bar J Ranch for dinner.

This is the funnest place ever!

Oops. Walked in on a cowboy doing his business!

Our table was on the first row. We got to eat first and were close to the door and the stage.

Barbequed shredded beef, beans, spice cake, homemade apple sauce, corn bread, a baked potato and lemonade.

The Bar-J Wranglers. Funniest singing cowboys ever.

At the El Rancho Motel. It was a dump.
Breakfast at the motel.

Tatem loved this apple.

Walking around town in Jackson. This is Rippley's Believe it or Not Museum.

Hanging out with Albert Einstein.
Chillin' with our pal Ben Franklin

Oh....and Abe Lincoln.

A gun door handle!

We found this cute play house that said "Paint Your Wagon" on it.

We went inside and....
They let us watch their dress rehearsal for their musical!

Cambrey wanted to walk around these church grounds really bad.

We ate lunch at this cute Mexican restaurant called Merry Piglets.

Fish tacos with mango salsa and aoli sauce!

We had to try a huckleberry milkshake before we left town.

We drove home on a route we have never traveled before through Idaho. This house was really cool.
The route we drove home was on a historic pioneer trail.
a small Idaho town.
